Processes

At SEATPLY, we believe that teamwork and technology are the keys to our success. We continue to invest in performance enhancement and state-of-the-art technologies allowing us to increase productivity, improve quality and become a leader in our field. Over the years, we have grown steadily while improving the quality of our products produced. Our in-house software manages our production from initial quotation to final delivery. All our molds; radio frequency and heat induction are built in-house using our CNC machines thus reducing the time and the cost of building new tooling.

At SEATPLY we provide you the following processes:

  • PRESSING

At SEATPLY we use 2 means of curing the wood in order to produce curved plywood.

This process is used for high-volume production of seats, backs and shells that are normally 1/2” thick or more. The tooling cost for RF presses is relatively low and quick to produce. SEATPLY uses 10 RF presses in Montreal.
When pressing complex compound curved components, it is preferable to use Heat Induction presses. This process requires more time but applies equal heat across the surfaces of the panels resulting in a high-quality end-product, especially for exposed grade components. Tooling requires more time to build and costs more than RF tools. SEATPLY uses 14 HI presses.
  • CNC MACHINES

All components at SEATPLY are machined on 5-axis CNC machining centers. These sophisticated computer controlled routers allow us to produce a multitude of upholstery and exposed grade components, thus ensuring a homogenous end product; whether the part requested is simple or intricate. We currently use 2 types of 5-axis machines. Our Thermwood Model C-67 dual-end spindle routers are best suited for mold-making and machining upholstery grade components. Our Bacci & Pade routers offer us 4 or 5 spindle routers and are best suited for exposed grade components requiring very high precision machining.

  • T-NUT MACHINES

At SEATPLY we provide our customer the option of having t-nuts inserted into the curved plywood parts. We have many standard t-nuts including metric.
